Vestibular Physiotherapy

It is a specialized program designed to alleviate symptoms arising from the vestibular system. People suffering from vestibular disorders experience dizziness, balancing difficulties/falls, postural and visual disturbances. Our therapist will assess your oculo-motor system, vestibulo-ocular system using various tests such as Dix-Hallpike test and the Supine roll test to check for BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). Based on the assessment, your therapist will then determine the cause of your symptoms, whether referral to another health professional is indicated, appropriate individualized treatment plan including devising exercises to help adapt your brain to and compensate for whatever is causing vertigo.  Vestibular therapy consists of specially designed exercises to help reduce these symptoms. These exercises include Habituation, Adaptation, Balance training, and Gaze stabilization exercises.

Conditions typically treated by vestibular therapy include:

  1. BPPV
  2. Vestibular neuritis/Labyrinthitis
  3. Cervicogenic dizziness
  4. Recurrent vestibulopathy
  5. Unilateral vestibular hypofunction
